Maemo is a really special operation system and in many ways different than Symbian. One difference is the application manager which is based on catalogues. By default only the Nokia Application catalogue is activated. Maemo Extras, a catalogue featuring a bunch of apps, is deactivated by default but can be activated easily.
However, there are also two other big catalogue – Extras-devel and Extra-testing. Developers upload the newest version of their software to Extras-devel. From there the packages go Extras-testing and finally Extras through an automatic and human Quality Assurance process. This is a repository for developers and regular contributors of specific software projects. The applications in Extras-devel and extra-testing are waiting to be tested and aren’t final. There might occur some error so install apps on your own risk.
In order to add Extras-testing and Extras-devel go to the Application manager, select Application catalogs and then new. Than just fill out the detail:

Catalog name: maemo.org extras-testing
Web address: http://repository.maemo.org/extras-testing
Distribution: fremantle
Components: free non-freeMaemo Extras-Devel

Hi Everyone, just few days back i bought a brand new Nokia n900 mobile.. But now the application catalogues are disabled and while updating it shows as “NO APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE”. Some one pls solve this problem for me so that i can start downloading new applications here..
Try going to application manager and once that opens tap at the top of the screen on the words application manager then on application catalogs. then once in there tap on any of the catalogs that are not lit up and make sure there is NO check mark in the disabled box, check them all but if they are not disabled the will be lit up. So any that are not lit up more than likely have the disabled box checked.

hey have you solved your problem yet? if not that error usually comes up if your running original stock manager or if the package your installing isn’t in working order so just uncheck it. make sure u spelt everything correctly in the repository section. the http stuff
