Maemo 5 is available in landscape mode mostly. Only the phone app, photo browser and some 3rd party application run in portrait mode. Thus, two hands are required that is sometime annoying. Now, Guyver from talk.maemo.org managed to run the Nokia N900 in portrait mode:

Hi, i somehow managed to get my n900 in portrait mode from a glitch. How weird.. lol

I probably cant recreate it again, but i just tilted the phone to launch the phone app then slide up the screen and closed the phone app.

Let’s hope that Nokia will add this feature in a upcoming firmware.

  15. Nokia N900 Accidently Running In Portrait Mode…

The Nokia N900 only runs Maemo 5 in landscape mode for the most part, besides the phone app, photo browser and some other 3rd party applications. However, Guyver from talk.maemo.org managed to accidentally run his Nokia N900 in portrait mode by tiltin…

Nokia must us this and send update to all.

I actually managed that glitch too, but didn’t really like it. Too buggy as it’s nothing official. And after restarting the device, it went back to normal.

    Unforunately we don’t know.

have managed to do this also – quite by accident as days ago i tried for ages with the keyboard / phone method described to no avail – today though i sat down at my computer to put phone onto charge while working, must have tilted it and accidentally activated phone (on auto turning) so plugged phone into computer via usb while on phone screen – went and deactivated turning control and pressed cross to close phone app and that was it – was sitting in portrait for everything … stayed in portrait regardless of turning etc now

    • jenn says:

would be cool if it was configured for it but is s*** until as onscreen keyboard etc goes off screen so pointless really at moment….
